Strangely more enjoyable on a second viewing. Not a great plot more linear sequence of events with some interesting characters.
Our evil antihero Hannibal having escaped at the end of Silence of the Lambs has taken refuge in Florence where he plays a game of cat-and-mouse with the Police Chief who wants to hand himover to a Gary Oldman for $3m. Oldman of course has hideously disfigured himself to gain Hannibal’s favour in the past and is now somewhat vengeful.
Meanwhile Starling’s career has taken a bit of a downturn and is put in pursuit because of her previous experience. She’s soon in hot pursuit (because of some hand cream!?!) and learns of Oldman’s intentions. People are eaten by pigs, Starling saves Hannibal, Hannibal saves Starling, people are disembowelled and Hannibal throws the kind of dinner party that even Heston Blumenthal might wince at.
"I’m giving very serious thought, to eating your wife".
