The Bling Ring (2013)
A movie about obnoxious, trendy, hip, wannabe kids with outrageous levels of self entitlement that break into their idols houses to hang out, party and live their lives vicariously…. and steal some really expensive stuff too.
Think Mean Girls meets Robin Hood but instead of robbing the rich and giving to the poor they use the money to buy coke and go to the clubs the very celebs they are robbing attend.
There’s some interesting scenes here, particularly around the inevitable fallout. Hermione gives a star turn as a 90210 socialite - she really has come a long way since that awkward performance in the Philosophers Stone.
Coppola likes to examine fame from different angles and she’s doing so again here. It’s a commentary on celebrity obsessed generation and (for me) these are unlikeable people, doing horrible things and listening to offensive music.
This is a true story which makes it a little more interesting and it’s well made but not my subject matter.
"I think we just wanted to be part of the lifestyle. The lifestyle that everybody kinda wants".
"Let’s go to Paris. I want to rob!"
"We’re in L.A. Don’t be such a little bitch!"
"Your butt looks awesome".
"Yar, it was so chill".
"Shut the fuck up!".
